The Trade Doll

The Trade Doll - Sculpture by Jeff Wolf
After the discovery of the new world, trade quickly became the most important interaction between the American natives and the colonists. For the Indians it was an extension and continuation of their inter-tribal practices.
“The Trade Doll” Depicts a young Indian girl affectionately cradling a white-man’s doll that was acquired in trade. Possibly from things she had made with her own hands.
