Whether you are a seasoned professional or in the beginning phases of your sculpting career, this four day course is designed to enhance any sculptor’s ability and knowledge by effectively applying and understanding the principles of art.

The course will cover the following:

  • Anatomy, Balance, Composition, Design, Negative space, Mass, Mirroring and Mimicking images both Negative and Positive.
  • You will teach a unique and effortless method of learning by identifying individual shapes and forms and how they relate to one another much like assembling a puzzle.
  • Emphasize the importance of the base which supports the main subject and how it should complement rather than dominate the sculpture.

All beginning students will start the course by sculpting the equine head from the skull to a finished bust. Plus learning to create small quick studies and finish the course by creating a small sculpture of their choice of subject matter.
Advanced students will continue improvement on works already in progress, plus joining in on any exercise that is being covered with the beginning students.

Costs and Requirements:

Tuition Fee includes three nights lodging and noon meal each day.
If lodging is not required it will be deducted from the tuition fee.
Maximum enrollment: 10 students per workshop
Beginning Students:  All materials will be provided and included in the tuition fee. course….$770.00

Horse Head Study Cast
Course One – Horse Skull Study
Course Description
Anatomy is the first and foremost important aspect of all the artistic learning processes.  This course is designed as a easy to follow anatomy study course. This course is a must no matter the preferred artistic medium or skill level, from the professional to someone who has never work with clay before. The student will learn to train their eye to recognize shapes and form in their proper place, perspective and proportion. This is the first step and will lead to human head anatomy, full figure human and animal anatomy.
Sculpting Project
All first time students will start with a ¼ life size horse head study. The horse head is used for it’s simplicity in understanding bone and muscle anatomy.
Daily Agenda (Class will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily)
  • The first day the students will sculpt the skeletal structure of the skull.
  • The Second day the muscles are applied
  • The Third day the finished sculpture will emerge as a complete horse head bust

 Human Skull Study Cast
Course Two – Sculpting the Human Skull
Course Description
You will learn how to sculpt the human skull from the inside out. Starting with the skeletal structure, proceeding to muscle additions and finishing with proper use of the tools.

Course Description
This course is designed to increase the understanding of anatomy, design, composition, balance, negative space, mirroring images, repeating forms and much more.
The course will start with each student getting a critque of their work or suggestion on how to start thier new sculpture.
Sculpting Project
Artist are required to bring work(s) that they are working on or ideas to start a new sculpture.
Daily Agenda
Each day will build upon the previous day to improve the sculpture(s) through the understanding of the applied principles.  The results of this course will amaze even the seasoned professional.
